Rating Albums Statistically

This right here is your personal objective view of an album. If you’re rating an album without critically analysing each song, that’s your personal view with a few biases included. That being said, rating albums statistically doesn’t give room for how the album made you feel as a whole, how cohesive it was, how good a concept it was or what inspiration it may have given you as well. I, for example, personally prefer 50cent’s ‘the Massacre’ to ‘Get Rich or Die Trying’ because I used to bump that album while playing GTA (it was the soundtrack to my criminal El Chapo lifestyle back then). However, if I rate all the songs in both albums individually, Get Rich or Die Trying gets a higher average. Therefore rating albums statistically using my ‘music rating system'(check out that post if you haven’t already) may not necessarily mean you hate or love an album. It serves as a scientific approach to the album in question sans bias. Even if an album is great, one poor or average song can heavily damage its statistical average. Another thing that can affect the statistical average of an album is the number of songs it has. With all that in mind I hope you enjoy this. It’s a rating system which includes some of my examples in their respective categories. These are the categories
8.5 and above

If you rate an album statistically and for some strange reason it falls in this category then it means the album is out of this world. The consistency is incredibly mind blowing and this may not need to be a category because it is quite impossible to fall in this category. Examples are Eminem’s The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show. Linkin Park’s Meteora
8 – 8.49

If an album falls in this category statistically it means the album is a classic. It is one of the best albums ever made. It is not easy to reach this category and some good artists have never released projects that fall in this category. Great albums only fall in this category. Examples are Jay Z & Kanye’s Watch the Throne. Kanye’s Graduation, 808s & Heartbreak and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Drake’s Thank Me Later and Take Care. Kendrick’s Damn and Good Kid M.A.A.D City. 50cent’s Get Rich or Die Trying and The Massacre. Ed Sheeran’s Plus and Multiply. Linkin Park’s Minutes to Midnight and Ed Sheeran’s Divide.
7.5 – 7.99

If an album falls in this category, it means it is a very good album. For your statistical average to fall in this category you must be doing something right. The album in question is a very good one which you enjoyed the hell out of. In some cases, the album has a few average tracks and that is why It couldn’t make it in a higher category. If the album does not have enough 9s in them it is likely it’ll be in this Category. Examples are Lana Del Rey’s Born to Die. Eminem’s MMLP 2 and Recovery. J Cole’s Forest Hills Drive. Drake’s Nothing Was The Same. Kendrick’s To Pimp A Butterfly. Kanye’s Late Registration and The Life Of Pablo. Jhené Aiko’s Souled Out. Gambino’s Camp and Because Internet. Rihanna’s Rated R. Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory.
7 – 7.49

If an album falls in this category it means the album is a solid album. It’s consistent but not outstanding. Some albums here may be okay but certain outstanding songs pushed the album up into this category. In other cases, the album may be very good but a few questionable songs may pull it down into this category. Also, In some special cases the songs in these albums are mostly 7s. Examples of albums in this category are Big Sean’s I Decided and Dark Sky Paradise. J Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only and Born Sinner. Eminem’s Relapse and Encore. Drake’s Views. Kanye’s College dropout. The Weeknd’s Starboy. Chance’s Coloring Book. Stormzy’s Gang Signs and Payers. Dr Dre’s Compton. Rihanna’s Unapologetic and Anti.
6.5 – 6.99

Albums in this category are average or quite disappointing. Most songs aren’t good but a few good ones raise the album into this category. If you rate an album and it falls here, it means that the album was just okay. Examples 50 cent’s Curtis. Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication. Dj Khaled’s Major Key and Rihanna’s Loud
6 – 6.49

If your album falls here statistically it means the album is poor. There may be a few outstanding tracks but the terrible ones pull the album down here. Example Kanye’s Yeezus.
Below 6

If your album is below 6 statistically then it is a terrible album. Absolutely atrocious! Did you not plan before putting the songs together? If you are an artist and your album falls here it is extremely likely that I’ll never listen to any project of yours again. Example 50cent’s Before I Self Destruct. (Statistical Average of 5.13)

So Yup! That is it. Do you have albums you want me to rate and include in the examples, do you have possible 8s that I may have not rated?, do you want to see a post with the exact ratings of each album? Feel free to comment. Until the next post, Safe.
